What is the Shed Card?

The Shed Card is an easy way for customers to shop in The Appliance Shed stores on credit. The Shed Card is managed and provided by Thorn Group Financial Services Limited ("Thorn").

Thorn have operated in New Zealand for over fifty years. It is important to note that staff at the Appliance Shed are not agents of Thorn nor are they trained and qualified to advise customers on the suitability of this or any other financial product.

Further down this page are some more details on features, privacy and important legal disclosures. To be eligible you just need be at least 18 years old and a permanent resident of New Zealand. This application should take about 10 minutes. You will need your NZ Driver’s Licence or Passport and some details of your income and expenses.

This request is for a Shed Card. The Shed Card provides credit up to a pre-approved limit.

What do I need to know about the Shed Card?
  • The Shed Card provides credit for whatever you want to buy at The Appliance Shed up to a pre-approved limit.
  • We ask for payments within 14 days of your monthly statements being issued. You can pay your Shed Card account by direct debits, automatic payments, electronic payments, credit cards and cheques.
  • The minimum amount you would need to pay each month is 3% of your closing balance or $20 (whichever is more)
What are the fees and charges?
  • The interest rate we would charge is based on your individual circumstances
  • Interest is calculated daily based on the unpaid balance on your card at the end of each day.
  • There is a monthly fee of $3.25 if your account has a debit balance of more than $100.
  • If you were unable to pay the minimum amount in any month, a one off fee of $33 would be payable for that month plus default interest of 33% on outstanding amounts. This would be calculated daily

What are our products and services?

This disclosure statement relates to financial adviser services that Thorn offers to retail customers in relation to its Shed Card loan product.

What you can expect from our QFE services?

Thorn’s QFE status is limited to offering retail customers advice about its Shed Card loan product and other products it may from time to time offer. Thorn is responsible for all financial advice provided by its staff about its products. Staff who provide you with advice are known as 'QFE advisers'. This means they can only give you advice about Thorn’s products. This includes details that are written in your agreement with Thorn.

How to make and resolve a complaint about our advice

If you have a complaint, please email or phone us to tell us what it is. We will promptly confirm that we have received your complaint. We will investigate and make every effort to help.

However, if you are not happy with the outcome, you may wish to contact the independent disputes resolution scheme that Thorn has engaged.

What it means to say we’re a QFE?

Thorn is licensed and regulated by the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) for our financial services. You can get information about financial advisers from the FMA and report information about Thorn to the FMA.

I acknowledge that Thorn Group Financial Services Limited trading as Shed Card (Thorn) is asking for personal information. That information may be used by Thorn, its related entities, successors, assigns, agents, associates and merchants that Thorn has a merchant agreement with (including Appliance Shed Limited) for the purposes of determining whether or not to provide me with credit, collecting payments (including offers of new products or invitations to participate in competitions), and conducting market research.

The information we collect and hold would include, but is not limited to, details of income, assets and liabilities, employment history, credit history and contact details. As part of this process, Thorn may also get information from, and give information to third parties. These parties include financial service providers, credit reporting agencies, government agencies, referees, employers(both past and present), owners, occupiers or neighbours of any premises reasonably believed to be my current or recent address.

I acknowledge that I have the right to access, and request the correction of, any personal information about me held by Thorn or the Appliance Shed Limited.
